Matt Leinart Announces Urban Youth Football League/Rotary Partnership At Downey Rotary
July 13, 2010- Downey Rotary club. In anticipation of an upcoming Rotary partnership, Downey Rotary had a very special guest speaker. Matt Leinart, the starting quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals and Heisman Trophy winner while at USC, visited the club to introduce Rotary to the Matt Leinart Foundation’s Urban Youth Football League (UYFL).
The Matt Leinart Foundation is “committed to granting resources and opportunities to support disadvantaged youth through learning centers, sports activities, and granting wishes: to build character development, and help each child maximize academic and personal achievement”. The UYFL is focused on building character through athletics and, most importantly, in life. In addition to gaining gridiron knowledge, tutoring and mentoring programs, community service work, and regular grade checks are essential elements of the UYLF.
Rotary District 5280 will be partnering with the Matt Leinart Foundation’s UYFL this year. There are many ways our Rotarians and Rotary clubs can get involved. Sponsoring a student can cover the cost of jerseys, football pads, buses for transportation, lunches, insurance, field rentals, medical physicals, coaches and more. Mentoring opportunities, attending practices and scrimmages and more are also available.
