Makiko Nakasone Selected As District Governor 2023-24

It is with great pleasure that we announce the selection of Rotarian Makiko Nakasone as District Governor Designate. Makiko will serve in the role of District Governor in the Rotary year of 2023-24.

A member of the Glendale Noon Rotary Club, Makiko brings with her a wealth of Rotary experience and knowledge.  This Rotary year Makiko is serving as both New Club Development Chair and the District Alumni Chair.  She has been heavily involved with the creation of three Satellite Clubs and the chartering our new Cause-based Rotary Club, the Fighting Human Trafficking Club. As Alumni Chair, Makiko put together and managed a highly successful and well attended Alumni Zoom meeting, the first of its kind in a long time.

Her experience with New Club Development began with the forming and chartering of the Little Tokyo Rotary Club during the 2014-15 Rotary year, when Makiko transferred her membership to become the Charter President of that Club, only returning recently to her original Club, Glendale Noon.

One thing Makiko does constantly is share her gratitude for being selected as an Ambassadorial Scholar by Rotary and she is incredibly grateful for the opportunity afforded that enabled her to study at the Albert-Ludwigs Universitaet in Freiburg, Germany. It was a life-changing experience for Makiko, and one she is always trying to “pay forward” by reaching out to all of our District’s Alumni to encourage them to join Rotary and give back. She has served as a role model with her own involvement of giving back to Rotary.

In addition to the above experience, Makiko has served as Group Study Exchange Chair (now VTT), District Friendship Exchange Chair, District International Co-Chair, numerous Club positions, including that of Club President for the Glendale Noon Club, and has written several successful Global and Reverse Global grants. As if all of this isn’t enough, Makiko has also acted as the personal Interpreter to Past Rotary International President Sakuji Tanaka, organized and put on Peace Conferences, spoken at several International Peace Conferences, and also spoke at the Rotary International Convention in Atlanta.

Let’s give a rousing, warm welcome to DGD Makiko as she starts her journey towards the role of District Governor.  She will welcome your calls, emails and/or texts as she starts this new exciting journey!
