Mobile Vaccination Clinic Fund

Volunteer and Funding Opportunity:

MLK, Jr. Community Hospital (MLKCH) is converting Sprinter vans into mobile vaccination clinics that will go into communities in South LA that have been disproportionately affected by COVID-19 and administer vaccines to anyone who would like one. Creating access to the vaccine is crucial to a community that was one of the hardest hit in the nation by this deadly virus and has historically faced barriers to quality care. The mobile teams can vaccinate up to 400 people at each event, and they have already been vaccinating over 2000 people a week. There are two ways that you can help!
  • MLK Community Hospital is seeking non-clinical staff to volunteer their time during the month of May to do the following:

    • Manage lines/line control, checking in community members, handing out fliers for additional vaccine clinic dates, escorting community members to vaccine stations, escorting community members to the observation area and providing a timer, etc. They are looking for teams of 2-3 volunteers per location. Volunteers are requested to commit to a 3-hour shift, although they prefer if volunteers could do a 6-hour shift.

      • More details for potential volunteers:
        • Dress comfortably as volunteers will be standing outside for extended periods. Bring a hat for warm days and an extra layer for cooler days.
        • Lunch (sandwiches) are provided, along with water and snacks for the staff
        • Parking TBD based on location
        • Dates/Times and locations are available here
        • Note: MLK Community Hospital is also seeking medical staff to administer the vaccines. Times/dates/locations for medical volunteers can be coordinated directly with the pop-up clinics.
        • If you are interested in volunteering (for either the non-clinical or the medical opportunities), please contact Priscilla Valencia at (310) 346-5493 or priscilla@mlk-chf.org and mention that you are a Rotarian.
  • The District 5280 Disaster Relief Committee has set up a Mobile Vaccination Clinic Fund to help put another mobile clinic team on the road.

    • The funds raised would help convert the Sprinter van into a mobile clinic and purchase medical equipment and supplies needed for 12 vaccination events.
    • To pay by check, mail a check payable to "Rotary District 5280 Charitable Foundation" with "Mobile Vaccine Clinic Fund" in the memo to 8939 S. Sepulveda Blvd., #210, Los Angeles, CA 90045.
