Message From District Governor Albert Hernandez

Message from District Governor Albert – Rotary District 5280

To our Rotary family around the world,

From the bottom of my heart, I want to extend my deepest gratitude for the overwhelming outpouring of support Rotary District 5280 has received in response to the devastating wildfires that impacted our communities in January 2025. Your prayers, in-kind donations, and incredible financial generosity have been nothing short of inspiring.

Thanks to your compassion and commitment, our District has received over $1.3 million in funding to support relief and recovery efforts. A special thank you to ShelterBox for partnering with us and launching a generous $100,000 matching grant opportunity that helped galvanize even more support.

Together, we have already allocated over $325,000 in humanitarian aid. This includes:

  • $35,000 in direct grants to frontline organizations such as the Firefighter Foundation and the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank,

  • $138,000 to support Rotary Club-led projects—from equipping fire stations, to funding Habitat for Humanity rebuilding efforts, to offering temporary shelter for unhoused families, and organizing food and essential item distribution events.

  • $62,000 to non-Rotarians who are in dire need of support. Items we provided included grocery store gift cards, clothing, hygiene products and more.

We’ve also stood by our fellow Rotarians who have suffered unimaginable loss—including members who lost homes, and the entire Pacific Palisades Rotary Club, whose members all lost their residences in the fires.

Your generosity has made hope possible. It’s a true testament to what we can accomplish when people of action unite.

With deep gratitude,
District Governor Albert Hernandez

We know things are changing constantly. We will try to communicate as much as possible to give everyone updated on what the Rotarians in our District are reporting back.
