As you may know, our District recently assembled a Vocational Training Team to participate in its first Peace and Conflict Resolution Project, the Mediators Beyond Borders Congress, which just concluded in Istanbul, Turkey. The highlight of the Congress was RI Past President Luis Vicente Giay's address on how Rotary can engage in peace and conflict resolution work, and focused further on cross cultural negotiations, and skills and strategies to build peaceable communities.

The Vocational Training Team, led by Team Leader Greg O'Brien of the Rotary club of Palos Verdes Peninsula, arrived in Istanbul in late September, and consisted of Rotarian Chris Golden, sponsored by the Inglewood Club; Alejandro Haezaert-Caraveo, sponsored by the Hawthorne-LAX-Lennox Club; Robyn Weinstein, sponsored by the Rancho Park Club; and Dominik Grace Onate, sponsored by the Thai Town Club. The team was selected from among more than 20 Rotarians and non-Rotarians who applied.

Now that they have returned, the VTT members will visit clubs throughout the District to impart the knowledge gained from their participation in the many peace-related seminars, and to share their experiences in Turkey.  I encourage you to contact me to schedule one of the VTT members to speak at your club. Their presentations are sure to be informative, insightful and fun.
