The annual Rotary International Float will again be featured in the upcoming Rose Parade in Pasadena on January 1, 2014.  This parade will have over one million viewers along the parade route, as well as it will be broadcasted on television to many countries around the world. It is a wonderful opportunity to publicize our organization and our dedication to ending polio throughout the world to the many millions of viewers along the route and viewers of the multiple broadcasts in the United States and throughout the world.

Former District 5280 Polio Plus Chair from 2009-2013, Shirley Giltzow, Ed.D. is truly honored and very excited to have been invited to represent our District 5280 on the Rotary International float.  The parade theme this year is Dreams Come True,  which certainly is consistent with Rotary's dream of eliminating polio throughout the world.  Each parade float interprets the parade theme.  The Rotary International float will display our theme for this Rotary year, Engage Rotary Change Lives on the float, which depicts a whimsical holiday train.  Shirley is extremely honored to be joining other float riders and outwalkers, including Rotary International President Ron Burton, and the son of Dr. Salk, and the daughter of Dr. Sabin, who were the famous developers of the vaccine that prevents polio.  Read more at www.rotaryfloat.org/riders
