The Rotary Club of Historic Filipinotown has been coordinating relief efforts with their partnering club in the Philippines, the Rotary Club of Cebu City. Recently, Rotarians spearheaded a massive food distribution to typhoon victims in Malapascua, a town at the north tip of Cebu island. It is a fishing community that is home to 1,200 families (total population of 7,000 people). The cargo that the Rotarians collected was loaded onto a pump boat, which held nearly 3 truckloads of goods. The cargo was unloaded and unloaded by human hands- no forklifts or cranes. The base of operations was the Malapascua Legends Hotel. The entire hotel staff helped in the distribution of the food. When the distribution was over, about 800 of the 1,200 families on the island had received food bags.
