John Hewko, Rotary International General Secretary, announced this past week 15 security officers and civilians were killed outside a polio immunization center in Pakistan.  Even more tragic, a total of 65 health workers have been killed in the past two years doing the good works of Rotary by providing immunizations in Pakistan (read his statement here).

From this terrible tragedy, we are determined to triumph by finishing the job of eliminating polio forever in whatever country it still exists, which is now only Pakistan and Afghanistan.  These workers gave their lives for the cause of eliminating polio.  In tribute to these workers, and to the determination of Rotarians in District 5280, I challenge every Rotarian in our District to make a donation, no matter the amount of the donation, to Polio Plus during this next month.

Wouldn't it be wonderful to have every Rotarian in our District make a donation for this cause by Rotary's anniversary date of February 23rd?  We can do this.  For your convenience, the MULTIPLE DONOR Form is here. Right now, 30% of the clubs in our District have not made a donation to Polio Plus this year.  Club presidents, we need your help in getting this message out to all of your members! Let's have 100% of the clubs, and 100% of our district members make a donation by February 23rd! Donations of any size are welcomed.

If you need any assistance in getting your donations and credit to your individual members, feel free to contact me.  Together, we are determined to Triumph over this Tragedy, and eliminate polio forever.
