Since the effort was launched of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative in 1988, 99.9% of the wild polio virus has been eliminated! We are in the home stretch to a 100% polio-free world! The last stage is challenging but essential. We cannot rest until the world has no new reported cases of the wild polio virus for three years. Of the 125 countries identified as polio-endemic in 1988, only two remain - truly remarkable!
