On 20 September 2014, the Rotary E-Club of The Greater San Fernando Valley took over the generously-donated Arthur Murray Sherman Oaks Studio to host its Fifth Annual “Dance for the Children” to raise donations to The Rotary Foundation for PolioPlus.

Rotarians and friends, “sponsored” for as little as $10 by friends and family to dance, enjoyed many different music styles, dance lessons from E-Club Member and Arthur Murray dance instructor Sharon Gorrell, tasty snacks, and the knowledge that their combined efforts had raised enough, in excess of $5,600 US with the Gates Foundation match on top of it, to vaccinate more than 28,000 children.  The event’s five-year total is close to 60,000 children.  Roughly half of the donations have come from outside of Rotary, making this a major public outreach event as well.   Local businesses sponsor the event, so 100% of the dancer donations can go to PolioPlus.

“We dance for the children who can’t dance due to polio,” explains Gorrell, “so that no child will ever have to say that again.” For more information, visit the club's website here.
