Rotary District 5280 works closely with the Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton. The program for October 26th is a continuation of our close relationship that has developed over the last few years. This program, which is very close to Halloween, will make the troops, especially the enlisted Marines, realize that their families are very important to Rotarians. Bear in mind that about 160 babies are born monthly on the base. There is a constant need for baby items, such as pampers. What would be ideal is for each club to make a concerted effort to collect baby items that can be brought down.

Join fellow Rotarians on our trip to Camp Pendleton for the Halloween Fair. We will be providing volunteers for the booths supplied by the Marines. The event's activities include Trick-or-Treating, face painting, a beer garden, and much more. We will spend the day with the families of two Marine platoons whose fathers/mothers have been deployed. After the fair, we will have the opportunity to visit the Memorial Garden that our District is supporting and also take our donations to the storage facility where families come to select needed items.

Contributions of unwrapped Christmas gifts, diapers, toys, books, school supplies and household items are welcome and we hope to be an early “Santa” for the families.

There will not be a bus going but we are driving down and friends and club members can carpool.  If you have a donation and can’t join us, please contact Larry Bender or Marie Fremd.

UPDATE: The event time has changed! The event will now take place from 2:00pm-5:00pm. The Interact bus will leave Hawthorne at 9:30am and most Rotarians driving down will arrive around 1:00pm to help with set up.

Directions:  Take 5 South to the Basilone Road exit.  Go toward Camp Pendleton.  Once through the gate bear right onto Basilone.  Stay on Basilone for about 5 - 6 miles until you see a sign welcoming you to Camp Horno.  Keep going for maybe a quarter mile.  There should be Special Event signs directing to the parking.  Linda Sundram from the Camp Pendleton Rotary Club will be there and her phone number is: 760-415-9990 if you need assistance that day.  At the gate you will have to show your driver’s license and it will be scanned

Thanks for supporting this great activity and we look forward to seeing you on the 26th at Camp Pendleton.
