Grants need to fall into one of 7 categories:
- Peace and Conflict Resolution
- Disease Prevention and Treatment
- Water and Sanitation
- Maternal and Child Health
- Basic Education and Literacy
- Economic and Community Development
- Supporting the Environment
Your donations to TRF are invested for three years. After 3 years, 50% comes back to the District in the form of District Designated Funds (DDF) and 50% goes to the World Fund.
We encourage all Rotarians to strive for these levels of giving:
- Paul Harris Fellow (PHF): When you give a cumulative $1,000 or more to the Annual Fund, PolioPlus, or an approved Foundation grant, not necessarily in one year.
- Paul Harris Society (PHS): This is a commitment to donate $1,000 or more each year. Think of this as taking Paul Harris to dinner every month for $85.
- Major Donor: This is when your cumulative donations reach $10,000.
- Bequest Society: This is a minimum gift of $10,000, usually in an estate plan, but can also include life insurance or a direct gift.
- Arch Klumph Society: This is a minimum cumulative donation of at least $250,000.
- Legacy Society: When you promise a gift of $1 million or more to the Endowment, usually in an estate plan.
- The Triple All-Stars: We are pleased to announce a new recognition program, The Triple All-Stars. Members in this group are in all three giving programs:
- Paul Harris Society
- Major Donor
- Bequest Society
We will be recognizing our Triple All-Stars at the Foundation Celebration and other times throughout the Rotary year.
We would like every club to reach these goals:
- Goal 1: Every Rotarian Every Year or EREY. Clubs are recognized when a minimum of $100 per capita each year is donated to the Annual Fund, and every member must personally contribute at least $25 each year.
- Goal 2: 100% Paul Harris Fellow (PHF). All members are Paul Harris Fellows. This is a one-time recognition, but we encourage all clubs to maintain their 100% PHF status.
Achieving these goals are not as difficult as it seems. Here are some ideas:
- Purchase and/or sell raffle tickets for the Annual Foundation Celebration in the Fall.
- 1 ticket is $10. A book of 12 tickets is $100
- Cash prizes are $5,000, $3,000, and $1,500
- Purchase live or silent auction gifts at the Annual Foundation Celebration. You get credit toward a donation for 50% of your purchase price.
- Make monthly contributions to TRF. You can easily do this through direct deposit at www.rotary.org/en/donate
- If both you and your spouse/partner make individual contributions, you can ask Rotary International to combine them for a total family giving amount. If both spouses/partners are PHS, then you will reach the Major Donor level in 5 years and both will be recognized.
In closing …
I like to use the metaphor of The Rotary Foundation is like a refrigerator. Would you rather have a refrigerator full of food so that you can eat and be strong, or an empty refrigerator and go hungry? The only way to have food in the refrigerator is to replenish it with food. The same goes for our funds for our wonderful programs. If we don’t replenish TRF funds with money, we won’t have funds for our District Grants, Vocational Grants, and Global Grants.
